Alex's Senior Photos

It's the time of year when we're thinking about seniors.

This was my second official senior session, others being mini parts of family sessions.

It was also my first guy session, and I was thankful, as I told Alex, for a cooperative model.

I've done a fair number of senior sessions when I was working in the portrait studio, and more often than not, guys are drug there by their moms, and getting a smile out of them is a real chore.

Alex told me pictures weren't really his thing, but he was cooperative and fun to work with regardless, up to whatever I suggested.

I've known Alex's family for a long time, and it's crazy to think he's old enough to graduate.

I babysat his siblings, but I don't remember babysitting him much. It seems that I would, for he was quite a rascal as a youngster. It's fun to see him growing into a respectful, thoughtful young man.

I like the picture above, because I think it has a real Alex smile with just a touch of mischief behind it.

We took the pictures at his family's home, which lends itself well to the purpose with barns, fences, trees, a pond, a rock, and even a bit of brick.

It had been cloudy all week, and it was supposed to be cloudy all day, warm but with a lovely overcast day like a gigantic lightbox. This makes for not dramatic, but nice even lighting, for good portraits.

Normally, I wouldn't schedule pictures at 2 o'clock, but with this in mind, we went ahead. And of course, right after noon the clouds cleared and the sun shone bright, just in time for pictures.

Although some are washed out more than I wanted, we had to get creative with some locations, and I did have some difficulty in adjusting my settings, I was still pleased with how they turned out.

He's a cool dude...

We decided to try out this grassy field, and although we missed the small, quickly moving cloud, I like the look.

This one below is one of my favorites.

Although Alex liked the natural look more than industrial types, we decided to throw in some brick for his formal outfit.

He isn't so formal himself, but he good-naturedly donned the full suit he borrowed for prom, and looked as comfortable as if he wore one every day.

This one below is my favorite of his closeups.

About here I asked him if he'd considered modeling.

That was not something he was interested in doing, though perhaps he'd consider it if he was paid enough.

Before we ended, we tried out over by this fence, and they ended up being some of my favorite pictures.

I seem to have a lot of them, don't I?

Wait...this might actually be my favorite of his close ups... I'm not good at favorites.

Thanks for modeling for me, Alex!
